Days 244-258 - May 6-20, 2012.

Continued from my last article.

Ah, let's see... the Welcome message was changed. That's not a huge deal. You can see the new one here.

According to these in-game alerts, we also did some Treasury Department-creating stuff on the forums, too, which, before I went inactive, I was staunchly against (and I haven't read the tl;dr law by Abroham Lincoln ) for giving Congress too much power; I hear the Emergency Measures section is particularly... worrisome for quasi-paranoid nuts like me. Connected to that was the election of Inspector General, which it was suggested to me that I throw my hat in to take up that post, but I declined, because I was lol-so-inactive by that time and it wouldn't be right for me to take on something else when I was doing such a poor job with my current Congress responsibilities. I guess I'll have to read up on all that if I get re-elected.

Then some interesting things happened. War was declared but not passed , impeachment was proposed twice (it succeeded the second time when Uncle Sam was ready to step down), and we elected a new Dictator. A more eventful term than I was expecting, to be certain.

We became allies with Greece, China, Mexico, and Brazil (later to be broken when they decided Mexico shouldn't exist) as well as renewed our alliances with Spain, France, Sweden, and whatever other MPPs expired in the course of this Congressional term.

We also did something that we'd been discussing in Congress earlier regarding our foreign relations, which was the possibility of creating a new alliance with those bro-countries that meant the most to us. Although it didn't seem feasible at the time, that idea of a new alliance with USA as one of the founding members became SIGMA .

Long Live SIGMA!

We certainly live in interesting times! And I think you're pretty much caught up on the in-game stuff. Sorry I couldn't get to all the forum stuff, too.

Day 259 - May 21, 2012.

USA Loaning Program is a go! Great job, everybody!

So glad to see that the national loaning institution got started up! It's designed to help American folks expand their business or military unit, to help our nation grow. I was a big part of getting it all sorted out in Congress, and we were really close to passing it as a law, before my sudden bout of inactivity. Don't know if they made any changes before they actually passed it. I forget where/when I said I'd donate my 5 Congressional gold towards it if it became a real thing, but I just did that now.

Today, I also voted Yes on the Canadian rental agreement. Our economics guy estimated get 6 times as much as we'd be paying for it in rent per month just by owning it and, as you may recall, I was always in favor of friendly relations with Canada. Not friendly to the point of giving them back their native region, but hey, not so much caring about conquering their remaining regions, either.

It's totally possible that Canada will eventually break off this agreement later and take back their region with foreign help and our rental gold, just like we did with Russia earlier this month, but hey, I'm willing to risk it in the name of good-ish foreign relations with our neighbor Canada. Speaking of our agreement with Russia, if this passes, we'll be paying Canada less gold than Russia was paying us, so that's always nice.

=========Running for Congress Again=========
============================================

I can't imagine Congress is terribly pleased with me. Maybe I'll do better this time?

Last month, I was elected to Congress for the first time. For the first 10 days, I had a blast actively participating and learning about Congress; for the last 15 days, I was pretty much not there at all, except for the super-important issues. And yet, I managed to be one of the highest scoring Congressmen of the month . Here's why:

When I was active, I participated in discussions and actively helped shape the budget, national loaning institution , and other such things to benefit the nation. I kept things moving along and did my best to keep everyone on point, while keeping myself well-informed through a whole heck of a lot of reading.

When I wasn't active, I still did things like vote against war with Canada , against impeaching Uncle Sam (the first time), vote for impeaching Uncle Sam (when he was ready to leave), vote in favor of a rental agreement with Canada, and vote on various in-game laws, mostly helping move money to the national Org from the Treasury so that it could be used by the sUSA government.

If re-elected, I'll see about reading back on topics I missed and participating more in Congress things going forward. And, as always, I'll do my best to keep y'all abreast of new developments in Congress. Oh, and before I went inactive, I was very close to championing a partially public budget. There was an agreement, in principle, that it would be acceptable to publicly show all but Department of Defense spending and the Total Expenditures line. I was going to propose it as a law when I suddenly went inactive. If no one in Congress has done it yet, I'll see about proposing it as a law to take effect starting with the June 2012 budget.

Also, I was jealous of all those people running with music videos instead of actual presentations, so this presentation now has a music video.

Until next time, sAmerica,
~Astra

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
