Hi dear readers,
I'd like to speak about something very important today, I mean the imminent creation of a second server "e-Sim PREMIUM. I call it this way because it's way more clear but its real name is e-Sim SECURA. A weird name that doesn't reveil what it's really all about.
Admin , real nickname "railman", and old player of eR... (a similar game, for the ones that wouldn't know it) decided recently to start a second server. Understand by this, an identical game to this one, but with a clear database, which means 0 accounts, 0 golds/companies, back to Day 1. The only real difference with the current server would be that it would be possible to BUY golds with RL money (through paypal).
1) First, why would
Admin want to implement this?
It's very simple, the current economical system of the game, the Donations in order to become "Premium" and the Fundraisings, doesn't suffice to finance the entire game and its costs. Concretely, the donations must bring only 50-60 euros a month, and the fundraisings take a huge amount of time to start, implement and handle. Therefore, obviously, when you know that on eR many players are ready to pay hundreds or even thousands of euros in order to become the most powerful players of the game, it is very tempting to do the same.
2) What is the problem with this "Buy Gold" concept?
The problem is, at first, that this function completely messes with all the game mecanics. When players can buy gold, it implies huge amounts of golds that magically "appear" in the game, which makes the gold currency devaluate quickly. In order to keep the gold currency at an acceptable exchange rate, you need to take the most gold out of the game as possible.
In eRe, the admins chose to make 99% of the new features requiring gold. You need gold to complete missions, to improve your training, your storage, to hit harder in battles, etc... They also choose to ban as much players as possible, and for this to happen they removed the appeal feature and any way to contact moderators. Gold that is locked on a banned account is de facto "out of the game". Anyway, in order to regulate the gold rates, the admins become gold frenzy, they will do everything it takes in order to sell as much as they can and make you spend as much as you can in order to buy more. And that, is really straining the players.
That's why many thousands of players left eR (sometimes to join e-Sim), that's why many boycots and campains against the admins were launched back there, and that's why the discontent of the players is huge on eR. But then, if e-Sim implements the same thing, what makes us so different from them now?
Well that's the question of the day, indeed.
3) What is the problem with the current layout of the homepage?
Admin decided the call the current server "Primera" and the new one "Secura", two nice names but they don't reveil at all what the main difference is between both. On the homepage e-sim.net we can see that we're given the choice between both servers. Allright, but this choice is not objective at all ! On the first picture, linking to this server you can see "ADVANCED PLAYERS ONLY", and on the second one, linking to the premium server you can see a green banner stating "RECOMMENDED SERVER".
What's going to happen next is easy to guess... Every new player, or at least 99% of them will choose to register on the server which was "recommended", the premium one. As a matter of fact, this server will be left with only so-called "advanced players", and with no new players joining the server it will slowly fade away. First there will be all the players that prefer to start over on a new server or that want to buy gold, they will eventually leave this server, then the population will decrease because of the players going unactive or leaving the game. The situation will worsen because as there will be no more babybooms it will be almost impossible to reverse the situation in any of the current wars. Soon there won't be enough players to run the smallest countries, which will disappear (invaded by a bigger one). The rest of the countries will follow soon or late.
A very dark future for this server, which is only due to the homepage of the game, and nothing more.
A solution would be to rename the servers in "Original Server" and "Premium Server" and remove this "recommended" and "advanced players" banners. Let the players choose themselves if they want to register on e-Sim or on a eRep-like.
4) What is the other problem of this idea?
When you start managing two servers, and one brings hundreds (or even thousands?) euros each month, while the other one barely brings you 50 euros a month, which one would you privilege?
It won't take long for
Admin in order to figure out that this server is the economical weakness of his server, and that on Secura -> More players -> Means more money. From then on, I can't seriously imagine him having even the slightest interest in this server. Obviously, for him, it would be a good thing if this server disappears, in order for more players to join SECURA.
Moreover, we must know that in the next 3 months, Admin will have way too much work with Secura (trying to regulate the gold market and fixing all issues the gold buying system will bring) to spend even a few hours on this server. Even after these 3 months, he'll have to develop new modules which require gold in order to make the server run. Plus, why develop modules that aren't lucrative for the game ?
Yeap, forget all your suggestions, hopes and the utopia you thought e-Sim would become. e-Sim and eRep, same thing.
5) Confusion, last problem with the Secura project
Two servers, identical in everything (except that gold "detail"
, but where the entire course of history is different. Different alliances, different companies, sometimes the same players, different wars, different presidents and governments. I don't know about you but to me it sounds like hell of a confusion. Moreover, both servers will be almost identical regarding their design, which won't make things easier.
Also, 2 distinct staff teams, that can be weird too. Will all IRC channels have to be created 2x?
To help fixing this issue, a good idea would for example to have completely different colours on the secura server. Here is an ugly example made with a paint-like software in order to illustrate what I mean.

If you want to do something to express your miscontent about this idea, sign the petition I've posted on the official forum (you need to be registered) and pass on the link to your friends and stuff to spread the word. This is the only thing we've left, nothing guarantees that it will work but it's better than sit and wait.

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.
Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.
Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.
In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.
Become an influential politician.
The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.
You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.
The international war.
The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).
At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.
E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
