"What are 'The Forums' and 'IRC'? I hear people talking about this all the time, but don't know what they're talking about?"

The Forums are an off-site forums the eUS Government uses to conduct it's business and the community can discuss game-related topics at length. We share forums with the eUS of eRepublic as well as Suna and Secura. The most important thing the forums are used for is to organize Congress. As a regular citizen, it's not very important to log onto the forums but it will be expected of anyone who wins a Congressional seat!

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, which is a set of servers that host a multitude of chatrooms serving a wide range of interests. You can even set up your own chat rooms to use with your Military Unit or Stock Company or just hang out with your friends. Our chatrooms and those of most of eSim are hosted on the RIzon server and our main national chat can be found in #e-sim.usa. If you're familiar with IRC, you should really stop in! If you're not, I'll explain how to get setup a little later.

"Okay, that's all great but why would I use them?"

The Forums are used frequently by members of Government, so if you're looking for a greater voice, seek an audience with leadership or want to engage with the most active members of the community, that's a solid way of doing it. I use it on a daily basis, but like I said earlier, it's really not so important for more casual citizens to be there, but you're certainly welcome!

IRC is much more important, though, since that's how we coordinate damage and distribute most of our supplies for our fighters. It's also a good place to hang out and get to know the community. If you want your damage to help America as much as possible, and even if you just want freebies (that's fine too!), this is bar-none the best way to do that.

"Well, alright. Let's say I'm interested, how do I get started?"

I'm going to explain IRC, first, since that's what most people are interested in and have trouble with.

If you're interested in IRC, the easiest way to get started is by using Mibbit (https://client00.chat.mibbit.com/). When you load the page, it should look like this:

Click for an expanded view!

You must select the Rizon server, if you don't you won't be able to find us and will be very confused! Each nickname on the server must be unique, so if you enter the same name someone else is using, it will ask you to use a different one with a very simple pop-up dialogue.

The next time you log into IRC, you will have a nickname registered as being your own. If you click the 'Auth' link, a text bow will drop down and you will be able to enter the password you will set up soon. You don't need to know this now, but it allows you to identify yourself to the server while you log in, instead of having to do it manually afterwards. It's pretty handy, so come back to this section later if you need to.

It should look like this, when you're done.

The red circled items have to be exactly like that, or you'll have problems!

When you're ready, press the 'Connect' button and...

This happens!

Okay, so that's actually me having an example conversation with myself but it does explain how to get registered. The password you entered is the same thing you enter in the 'Auth' section, I mentioned earlier. It's uniquely associated with your nickname, though, so if you try to use it with a different name you're gonna have a bad time.

So, when you press enter this happens!

Notice: It doesn't display /ns register somethingclever genericemail@gmail.com

So, once you check your email and follow the instructions relayed by the server in red, your name will be uniquely registered to you and you'll be able to join and interact with the players from all over eSim in real time. The eUS isn't the only country that uses IRC, most of them do and IRC is really the line that separates the serious players from the casuals.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the forums, you can access them by going to http://www.eusaforums.com . I am going to explain the thing that trips up a lot of people, though. When you've finished creating your account, click on the 'Profile' button near the top of any page. It will bring up a page that looks like this:

Mouse-over the 'Modify Profile' button (don't click it) and go down to 'Group Membership' and click on it.

It will take you to a page listing the various member groups. Make sure 'FORUM - eSim' appears on that list and, if not, request it. You can also hide the eRep section of the forums, if you can't bear to be reminded of such an atrocity.

But, that's about it!

There's tons more to do on IRC and some players start enjoying that more than the rest of the game. You can connect with groups of similar interests outside of eSim, develop bots, create groups and all sorts of stuff. My friends and I once created a system of bots that operated casino games where people could gamble eSim gold! We made a fortune and IRC really opens up the game experience for a lot of players.

As I mentioned earlier, IRC is also how we distribute supplies and coordinate fighting, which will be the topic of our next article!

If you have any trouble, feel free to contact the President (who is right now me, Lilith of Apollyon ) but any good President will be happy to help you. Also, once you get signed into IRC, there are usually people around to help you figure out specifics!

Take care, folks and I hope to see you soon!

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

"E-Sim is one of the most unique browser games out there"

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
